The Burden of Time // Track 1

Hollow Space

Hollow Space artwork

Lyrics

The coffee’s cold, but I still hold the cup
Another sunrise I can’t look at
Painted on a smile, just to keep things up
On this fragile balancing act

And I’m falling through the floor again!
This hollow space, my only friend
It’s a beautiful, terrible masquerade
Just weathering the storm that never ends

Heard a joke today, and I almost laughed
A flicker of the light I used to be
It’s a photograph from a distant past
Staring back, but it isn’t me

And I’m falling through the floor again!
This hollow space, my only friend
It’s a beautiful, terrible masquerade
Just weathering the storm that never ends

The colours fade to shades of grey…
Holding my breath…
liJust to get through the day…
lBut the weight…
It just won’t go away!

I’m falling through the floor again!
This hollow space is not my friend!
Tear off the goddamn masquerade!
I’m standing in the storm that never ends!

Meaning

"This song lives in the space where life keeps moving, but you feel disconnected from it. You wake up, go through routines, say what needs to be said, and keep things together on the surface. Inside, everything feels muted. The small things that used to matter barely register. Even moments that should feel warm pass by without landing. There are flashes of who you used to be. A joke almost pulls you in. A memory reminds you of a version of yourself that felt lighter. But those moments feel distant, like something you are observing rather than living. The "painted smile" becomes part of the day, something you put on just to keep things steady while everything inside feels unstable. What really sits underneath is the weight that never leaves. You hold your breath just to get through the day. The colors fade, the energy drains, and the same feeling comes back again and again. There is frustration in realizing that even when you try to push through, the emptiness stays right there with you."
